Celebrating Nottinghamshire Day 2023

Happy Nottinghamshire Day!

Nottinghamshire Day, observed on August 25th, is a time to honour the rich history, culture, and innovation that our county embodies - Harper Recruitment Group have been recruiting in Nottingham and the East Midlands for over 35 years and we’re proud to be a locally-owned business.

Our team is celebrating by reflecting on their favourite things about our home as well as their favourite places and “Notts-isms”.

“I grew up on a farm in rural Nottinghamshire and love the beautiful countryside our county has to offer. I enjoy being able to go for country walks, whilst having access to great restaurants and bars when looking for somewhere a bit more "lively" - I love going to Southwell and mooching around the independent boutique shops and cafes with the addition of a great selection of pubs!”

  • Favourite Nottinghamshire word: buer - those from Newark will know!
  • Favourite Nottinghamshire place: Binks Yard for live music and outdoor drinks

Kate, Divisional Manager

I live in a village on the border of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire but love that I'm only a 30-minute drive away from all the food and drink, shopping and events in Nottingham. Nottingham is my favourite city in the UK as it has something for everyone!

  • Favourite Nottinghamshire word: ayup
  • Favourite Nottinghamshire place: Coco Tang for cocktails and a boogie

“I moved to Beeston from Jacksdale for university and never left - I’ve had the best of both worlds being able to return to Notts village life every now and then, but I love the diversity and energy Nottingham has to offer, especially the independent restaurants and live music!”

  • Favourite Nottinghamshire word: “nesh”
  • Favourite Nottinghamshire place: The Garage in Chilwell for markets, street food and live music

Shannon, Operations & Marketing Coordinator

  • Favourite Nottinghamshire word: “duck”
  • Favourite Nottinghamshire restaurant: Has to be Revolución de Cuba with amazing live music every Thursday, great food and of course a reggae rum punch!

“I was born here and after living in Manchester for a period of time and also moving to Sheffield for University, I moved back. I love Nottingham as it’s where all my family live. There are lots of things to do as a family and I love that Nottingham Castle is open again as the children love going there.”

  • Favourite word: Alreet
  • Favourite restaurant: Lombardo's Italian restaurant, I could eat there everyday!
