Harper Recruitment Group – 2019 year in review

Everyone here at the Harper Recruitment Group is excited for another year of supporting and helping organisations like yours to grow and recruit for key members of staff, not forgetting having a little bit of fun along the way!

Here’s what we’ve been up to this year:

JANUARY

January is always a busy month, batteries have been recharged and everyone is ready to go! With clients looking to fulfil their staffing needs and candidates fresh on the market, we were placing candidates left, right and centre in their dream jobs! We managed to get through blue Monday and we celebrated our Permanent Divisional Manager, Kate’s 2-year work anniversary.

FEBRUARY

We celebrated Chinese New Year – 2019 is the year of the Pig. Pigs have a beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life!

Love was in the air this February, we matched 99.2% of our roles to the perfect candidate. We truly are a recruitment matchmaker! Also, Fiona Thornewill MBE, our Relationship Manager, teamed up with WREN to perform a motivational talk about her solo expedition to the South Pole, watch this space in 2020 as Fiona will be teaming up with some of our amazing contacts for more motivational and educational talks.

MARCH

March was a winner! We introduced some of our new marketing merchandise to our clients with a brand new shiny branded water bottle and wrapped our Harper car with some help from our friends at AR Signs. March didn’t stop here, our Managing Director and Founder, Jane presented at Hallam’s ‘Women leading high growth businesses’ breakfast roundtable for international women’s day. Jane was joined by a room full of local inspirational women who are all successful women in business. Last but not least, we collected 432 Easter Eggs with the help of our contacts and clients for our partner charity, Forget-me-Notts.

APRIL

In April, we were happy to announce Emma Lake’s return to work from her maternity leave after having her baby girl Rosie. Our Operations Manager attended a very insightful and interesting talk from Kieran Lawler at Hallam learning about the power of social media. We also celebrated #AdministrativeProfessionalsDay by saying a big THANKS to our wonderful support team.

MAY

The weather warmed up in May and so did our client visits. Here at Harpers, we try to visit our clients on a regular basis, to get a feel for their company culture, the nature of the role and their office environment. Our Temporary Divisional Consultants went to see a special client who offer flying lessons and much more. It’s not every day you get to sit in a helicopter. Our Managing Director and Founder, Jane appeared on the Notts TV debate. Although it’s not her first time, there are always some hot topics to discuss, this time it was dangerous dogs to voting in the European Elections. We also helped our friends at the Rosie May Foundation by recruiting for them on a pro-bono basis. We successfully placed a Fundraising & Partnership Manager for the Charity Director free of charge.

JUNE

In June, we were busy preparing for the summer. We successfully won a tender for Robin Hood Energy who are a local authority-owned company, based in Nottingham city centre, who aim to make energy more affordable for all, so our Temp to Perm team were busy bees. June was pride month, so in support of this, we changed our logo to all the colours of the rainbow! Also, do you remember how much it rained in June?!

JULY

Summer finally arrived. Harpers’ name was in lights at the Splendour Festival, did you see us on the big screen?! Fiona, our Relationship Manager was out and about networking again, this time from playing crazy golf to showcasing at the Nottingham Digital Summit, we met some great contacts and learnt a thing or two about the latest digital marketing trends – thank you Hallam for organising this event!

AUGUST

There’s a myth that things usually slow down over the summer, but not here at Harpers. August was a record-breaking month and to finish off this successful month, we celebrated the summer with our annual Harpers BBQ. We ate, drank and might have done a little bit of dad dancing and karaoke!

SEPTEMBER

In September, we supported our partner charity Operation Orphan in the sponsorship of the Hope Alive Tour. This tour explores and raises the issues of modern child slavery and directly empowers Operation Orphan to keep children safe. Nine runners completing a four-day relay from Hull to Cambridge via Liverpool and Nottingham. Each city is significant to Wilberforce and slavery in the 1800’s and Operation Orphan.

We celebrated our Temporary Divisional Manager, Rebecca’s 5 year work anniversary. Rebecca has taken our temporary division from strength to strength - things can only get better!

As we are all about rewarding hard work, we took all of our employees on the Princess River Cruise for a good old-fashioned knees up! We danced, ate and drank…. I think there is a pattern forming here.

OCTOBER

Our Rugby World Cup campaign was in full swing. Our clients and contacts took part in our sweepstake competition, some were lucky enough to win our RWC winners prizes!

Our Relationship Manager, Fiona Thornewill MBE was featured on the Institute of Directors magazine after showcasing another amazing motivational talk at the Broadway cinema.

We said goodbye to our long-standing member of staff, Paulette Goddard who has left for retirement, we miss her so much already but now she can focus on her hobbies and enjoy retirement life!

Last but not least, we were awarded the three best-rated categories for Recruitment Agencies in Nottingham – amazing!

NOVEMBER

In November, we celebrated our 32nd birthday! Harpers have been established since 1987, and have been recruiting in the East Midlands successfully since then.

We had our friend Vahid Gold take some new professional headshots for our website, we don’t half scrub up well. Also, we welcomed two new senior members of staff, Sanjay Sharma who has joined as a Managing Consultant in our Leicester office. Rachel Phillips joined us as the Newark Branch Manager which opened in November at Northgate Business Centre, Newark. Rachel specialises in Technical roles as well as the commercial sector, she has a wealth of experience under her belt and is excited to get stuck into the Newark, Lincolnshire and wider North Nottinghamshire area.

DECEMBER

We successfully collected selection boxes for our partner charity, Forget-me-Notts with the help of our wonderful clients and contacts, stay tuned to see how many we donated!

This December, we are not winding down, only moving forward, onwards and upwards!

Remember, we are still open throughout the Christmas period and will be actively recruiting for our clients throughout the festive season.

Our Consultants and team members are excited for 2020 and are ready to help you achieve your business goals with the right members of staff.
