Harper Recruitment Group are supporting a construction focused mechanical services organisation seeking a Contracts Manager – Mechanical Engineering to oversee the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of all mechanical projects. This role combines contractual oversight with operational leadership, ensuring projects are delivered on programme, to the required quality and in line with commercial targets.
The successful candidate will lead Project Managers and site teams, allocate resources, uphold operational standards and maintain strong contractual control across multiple projects. This position suits an experienced leader with strong mechanical engineering knowledge, commercial awareness and confidence managing complex construction projects.
Role Involvement
• Leading the operational delivery of all mechanical engineering projects from internal handover through to completion, commissioning, client sign off and defects close
• Developing and implementing operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity and project performance.
• Ensuring full compliance with construction health and safety regulations, industry standards and internal procedures.
• Providing visible operational leadership for health and safety, ensuring RAMS, permits, inspections and corrective actions are implemented correctly.
• Overseeing project schedules, budgets and resource plans to ensure projects remain on track.
• Identifying underperforming or at risk projects early, agreeing recovery actions and monitoring progress through to completion.
• Conducting internal project audits to ensure processes and procedures are being followed.
• Allocating operational management, labour and supervision across all mechanical engineering projects.
• Planning operational readiness for major and complex projects, including labour, procurement, logistics and project controls.
• Owning project completion documentation, commissioning records, handover packs and defects close
• Managing contracts with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Monitoring project performance to ensure all contractual obligations are met.
• Supporting the resolution of operational and contractual issues in conjunction with commercial teams.
• Working closely with pre construction and commercial departments to mitigate contract risks.
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Ensuring high levels of client satisfaction through consistent and reliable service delivery.
• Acting as the main point of contact for operational and contractual matters.
• Supporting business development by identifying opportunities for new contracts or repeat work.
• Enhancing operational capabilities in line with business growth plans.
• Leading process improvements to strengthen operational performance and efficiency.
• Setting clear expectations and creating a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Conducting training, performance reviews and succession planning.
• Ensuring apprentice development plans and workplace evidence requirements are actively managed.
• Contributing as an integral member of the senior leadership team.
