Commercial Director QS

My Mansfield based client of 19 successful years and have an immediate requirement to strengthen their commercial arm and recruit for a senior Key Management role.

Offering full turn-key solutions. Their set up is amongst the finest in the UK, all the facilities are in-house.

With their own purpose built 71,000ft offices and joinery manufacturing facility. The company is entering its 19th year of continued growth and success and is one of the UK's leading bespoke and volume joinery manufacturers and interior contractors working for some of the UK's blue chip retail, commercial, leisure and museum operators .

The company has 90 employees and has an annual turnover of over £12m.

Job Description

This is a senior position moving to director level or moving toward that within 12/18 months of starting the role Depending on the speed the new candidates success.. A succession plan is being put in place for key senior management to take the business to the next stage and allow the owner directors to step back, and retire.

Interior contracting experience is critical and an understanding of general building alterations and shell preparation works would be an advantage. My client is also a bespoke joinery company so installation would also be an advantage.

The Role

Supplying the end user clients and main contractors for the provision of fit out services.
Contract values range from £30,000 to £3m
Working across a range of sectors brings different challenges technically and contractually
Support the project managers
Supervisory over three full time experienced estimators
Adjudicated of all quotes (in time)
Responsible for the recruitment training and development of QS’s geared to the project demands and growth of the company
Personal skill set

Strong communication skills , both written and verbal are required along with good negotiation and analytical skills
Eye for detail and accuracy with numbers and will have a clear understanding of how projects are managed and successfully delivered
Excellent organisational skills
Collaboration and influencing skills with an ability to complete many tasks simultaneously to meet strict deadlines or with multiple and changing priorities in a high volume environment are essential
An ability to work independently and as part of a team and possessing strong people and management skills will assist the commercial manager to grow into the role and assist in building a strong commercial team.
Proven ability to work under pressure
Multi-tasking and the capacity to prioritise workload are also essential attributes
Able to manage their time and workflow to ensure deadlines are met
Computer literacy is expected with a good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. An understanding of MS Project
Excellent negotiation skills
Estimating
Qualifications

Degree qualifications is preferred QS would be perfect
Membership of a relevant professional body, for example MRICS or MCIOB ideal
Duties

Adjudication of tenders
Occasional estimating to assist during periods of heavy workload
Vetting and approving contracts and sub contracts
Vetting collateral warranties
Assess contractual risk
Supply chain management; reviewing and updating sub contracts and ordering protocols
Participate in tender interviews and contract negotiations
Participate in ‘handover’ meeting with the project delivery team
Provide ongoing support and responding to commercial queries made by the project delivery team
Ensure variations are priced and agreed timeously
Ensure contractual correspondence including EoT, claims and the like are prepared, submitted in good time and are agreed
Submit interim applications for payment and implement and manage robust credit control procedures
Negotiate and settle final accounts - Implementing and maintaining effective contract management information systems
Leading and assisting with contract enforcement ,evaluating non-conformance ,dispute resolution and other remedies
Build a commercial team including recruitment and training of additional commercial staff
Maintain sound and cooperative working relationships with existing clients
Actively promote the organisation and services offered by the company
Keep up to date with industry trends and changes that may impact on the business
Pay according to experience/ability and qualifications
